RALEIGH, N.C.—Freshman
Jake Faust headlined a small group of Duke University wrestlers competing at the Wolfpack Open Sunday at Carmichael Gymnasium. Faust took fourth place overall at 149 pounds in his first collegiate action.
Faust dropped his opening match to North Carolina's Christian Barber, but rebounded to win his next five bouts to advance to the consolation find. During his five-match win streak, Faust posted a pin and battled through a 3-2 overtime victory en route to a tough 7-0 loss to NC State's Brian Hamann in the third-place match.
Dorsey, coming off of a runner-up showing at the Hokie Open, picked up an 11-2 major decision to start the day. The Wolfpack's Peter Santos sent Dorsey into the consolation bracket with a 9-7 decision, but the redshirt freshman rallied for consecutive wins, including a first-period pin to move into the consolation quarterfinal where he lost to George Mason's Ryan Forrest, 9-4.
Also competing at 165 pounds, DeHart rallied for three straight wins after losing his opening bout to Ethan Ramos of North Carolina. DeHart edged Virginia Tech's David Bergida 8-6 and shut out Michael Thomas of UNC Pembroke 6-0 to move into the consolation quarterfinal against Paul Duggan. The Campbell 165-pounder attacked early and pinned DeHart for the win.
