IRVINE, Calif. – Graduate student Emily Barber finished 15th in the women's 100-meter breaststroke finals to wrap up a day of strong performances by Blue Devil swimmers at the 2013 U.S. Open.
Barber, who earned a U.S. Open cut Thursday in the 200 breaststroke, qualified for Friday's 100 breaststroke finals with a 1:10.56 swim in the preliminaries. She then went 1:10.93 Friday evening to place 15th overall.
Senior Hunter Knight posted a lifetime best 1:03.64 in the men's 100 breaststroke preliminaries Friday morning to come in 28th. Meanwhile, incoming freshman Peter Kropp clocked a time of 1:07.35 to finish 82nd.
The 2013 U.S. Open concludes Saturday in Irvine, with Blue Devils Lauren Weaver and Stefan Knight slated to compete in the preliminaries of the 50 freestyle. Incoming freshman Lindsay Schlichte is also qualified to swim in the women's 1,500 freestyle.
