LONG BEACH, Calif. – The Duke women's basketball team used a balanced scoring effort to kick off a two-game road trip to California with an 83-46 victory over Long Beach State Friday evening at the Walter Pyramid.
Four different Blue Devils finished the contest with double figures, including junior guard Lexie Brown, who turned in a game-high 17 points. Senior Oderah Chidom recorded her first double-double of the season with 14 points and 12 rebounds while redshirt junior guard Rebecca Greenwell also had 14 points.
Nine of the 10 Duke players who saw the floor registered points and all 10 corralled at least one rebound.
California natives Chidom, Kendall Cooper and Leaonna Odom paced the Blue Devils (6-1) to a 19-11 start to open the contest. The team shot over 60 percent into the second quarter while limiting the 49ers to just 20 percent shooting from the floor, pushing the margin into double digits.
Duke's defense held Long Beach State without a field goal for the final six minutes of the period to take a 36-18 lead into the locker room at the half.
Chidom led all players at the intermission with eight points while Cooper supplied five first-half rebounds.
Chidom, Brown and Greenwell all reached double figures early in the third quarter, with Greenwell hitting a trey at the 6:50 mark that made it 48-21. Brown knocked down her third three-pointer just a couple of minutes later to give the Blue Devils their largest lead at 28.
Turnovers plagued Duke throughout the contest, but the squad stayed in control offensively into the final minutes.
Odom matched her season high with 12 points as the Blue Devils rounded out the night with a 62 percent field goal shooting performance (32-of-52). Duke limited the 49ers to just 23 percent shooting (14-of-60) while outrebounding Long Beach State, 48-24.
Chanterria Jackson totaled eight points and Gigi Hascheff and Katie Webster seven each for the 49ers in the loss.
Duke remains on the West Coast through Sunday for a 3 p.m. ET contest at Pepperdine that will be broadcast on WCCSports.com.
