DURHAM, N.C.-- Well the holidays came and went faster than ever this year. It's always great to be home for Christmas but I always leave wanting to stay just a little bit longer. It was a whirlwind trip back to Kentucky for four days, but a wonderful Christmas nonetheless.
Christmas is such a special time of year. I tried to make the most of it by getting in the full holiday spirit for the full month of December. My roommate and I decorated our apartment the full Griswold fashion with a big tree and hanging Christmas lights. We even sent out 20 "exclusive" custom made Christmas cards of the two of us in Christmas onesies. Probably a little excessive but it made the buildup for Christmas that much better.
After capping off a solid win versus Villanova, I got to head back to Kentucky feeling good and ready for Christmas. Though Christmas is supposed to be a time of relaxing, for me I tried to make the most of every minute. During my short trip, I caught a OC girls basketball game, got dinner with some old coaches and teammates, met up with my high school friends, had Christmas with family in Louisville, Owensboro and Morganfield, Kentucky, and managed to get a couple workouts in.
The food was amazing everywhere I went per usual. My mom's sweet potato casserole and Oreo truffles stole my heart. I don't even want to know how much weight I gained in this short trip, but I know I'll be burning all those truffles off in the post-Christmas' practices so I'm not too concerned.
As always my little sister Emma wins the most creative gift giver. This year she surprised me once again, granting me a piece of "fake dog poop." She's such a thoughtful child.
I was busy, but I wouldn't have it any other way. I can relax back in Durham since we don't start school for a couple more weeks. Coming up we play my two home state schools UK and Louisville back-to-back, so it's time to get work. We've had a good season so far and are 11-1, but we still have a lot of work to do and things to prove.
Go Duke!
