DURHAM, N.C. – The third-annual Iron Duke's Varsity Club Giving Day was a resounding success from the support of our donors during the 27-hour fundraiser that will benefit our student-athletes, coaches and each of our varsity programs.
This year with help from 1,751 donors, we raised a grand total of $1,393,242 … a record for Giving Day, surpassing last year's $1.17M.
We have four Pod winners for "Total Dollars Raised", and each program will receive $3,000 toward their Varsity Club fund for winning their pod this year. In Pod 1, Men's Lacrosse surpassed their benchmark of $200,000 and raised a total of $356,078. In Pod 2, Baseball raised $148,930, while Women's Lacrosse won its pod with $194,744. Lastly, Women's Basketball raised $29,630 to secure the win in Pod 4.
Additionally, we awarded a team in each of the four pods with $3,000 for the "Most Donors" to their respective programs. In Pod 1, Swimming & Diving secured 337 donors, followed by Women's Lacrosse with 203 in Pod 2. The Marching Band accumulated 70 donors to win Pod 3 while Softball added 55 in Pod 4.
Given the unprecedented circumstances surrounding 2020, your support is more critical than ever as we attempt to provide the same outstanding student-athlete experience while adhering to COVID-19 guidelines.
In supporting your favorite Duke program, your generosity helps fulfill our Duke student-athletes' ever-growing needs, which allows them to compete safely during this difficult time.
On behalf of our student-athletes, our coaches, our staff, and Duke Athletics … THANK YOU!
