Blue Devils Wrap Up ACC Championships

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Duke wrestling team competed Sunday at the 2020 ACC Wrestling Championships inside the Petersen Events Center.
The Blue Devils compiled 2.0 team points on the day, thanks to individual wins from redshirt freshman Mason Eaglin and freshman Vincent Baker.
Eaglin garnered his 21st victory of the season when he took down Virginia's Victor Marcelli following a 4-0 decision-win in the quarterfinal round. Baker grabbed his second win in as many outings after a 5-2 decision over Virginia Tech's Stanley Smeltzer in his opening bout. Eaglin tallied his second victory over Marcelli, while Baker got revenge on Smeltzer, who posted a 14-4 major decision win during the regular season meeting.
Benjamin Anderson missed out on heading to his second consecutive NCAA tournament after he fell in a heartbreaker to Thomas Bullard of NC State 3-2 in the tie breaker-1 round. Anderson took a 2-1 lead into the third period but saw Bullard register an escape to knot the score and force overtime.
The NCAA will announce the additional at-large bids Tuesday with the official NCAA brackets coming out Wednesday. The at-large selections will be made based on the following criteria: head-to-head competition; quality wins; coaches' ranking; results against common opponents; RPI; qualifying event placement; and winning percentage. The NCAA Championships on March 19-21 in Minneapolis, Minn. Every session will be televised on the ESPN family of networks.
