DURHAM, N.C. – Redshirt junior
Josh Finesilver prepares to battle inside the Enterprise Center in St. Louis, Mo., on Thursday as Duke sends a wrestler to the NCAA Championships for the 13th consecutive season.
Â
Finesilver enters the tournament as the No. 27 seed in the 149-pound bracket and will face off against the No. 6 seeded Bryce Andonian of Virginia Tech. The Greenwood Village, Colo. native qualified for the NCAA Championships for the third time in his career and the first in this weight class, following a third place showing at the ACC Championships back on Feb. 28.
Â
Finesilver's upcoming bout with Andonian will be a rematch between the two familiar foes, after the duo met during Duke's dual match with the Hokies on January 29th. Andonian gained the upper hand during that bout and pinned Finesilver 1:02 into the matchup.
Â
Due to COVID-19 restrictions a limited number of tickets were allocated to the participating schools for the three-day event. The NCAA will have no additional public ticket sales for this year's Championships. However, ESPN3 will provide live video coverage of the entire event.
Â
Duke at the NCAA Championships
Following a long family tradition, Finesilver became the first three-time NCAA Championships qualifier since his older brother
Zach Finesilver did so in 2019. Finesilver and his brothers Zach, Mitch and Matt have been a dominate force for Duke wrestling over the last few years with at least one of them representing the Blue Devils in the NCAA Championships every year since 2015. With Josh's pending appearance, the Finesilver family has earned their 12th combined appearance at the national event.
Â
Finesilver is seeking his first victory at the tournament, having gone 0-4 in his previous matches. Should Finesilver collect two victories on the weekend, he will earn his 50th career win in a Blue Devil singlet.
