No. 8 Duke Powers Past Wake Forest, 76-64

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Freshman Paolo Banchero had 24 points and No. 8 Duke hit 13 straight shots to open it up after halftime and beat Wake Forest 76-64 on Wednesday night at LJVM Coliseum.
Fellow freshman AJ Griffin had a season-high 22 points in his first career start to help the Blue Devils (13-2, 3-1 ACC) bounce back from a home loss to Miami on Saturday. They did it with head coach Mike Krzyzewski sidelined by an illness while associate head coach Jon Scheyer served as acting coach.
Banchero and Griffin led the way as the Blue Devils suddenly stretched out a two-possession lead in the final minute of the first half, then carried a hot hand into the second that put the Demon Deacons (13-4, 3-3) away for good.
Griffin ended the first half by pump-faking Khadim Sy off his feet and then stepping over to knock down a corner three-pointer just before the horn for the 35-29 lead. The Blue Devils made their last four shots of the first half, then roared out of the break by making their first nine shots.
Alondes Williams scored 25 points for the Demon Deacons, who had the Blue Devils in a tight game coming down the first-half stretch and led 29-27 on Dallas Walton's and-one dunk with 54.1 seconds left. But Wake erased a stretch of quality minutes with a shaky finish that jump started Duke's run.
Duke held the Deacs to a season-low .125 (2-16) from deep, while the Blue Devils were efficient offensively, recording 13 assists to just seven turnovers. Freshman Trevor Keels chipped in 11 points on 5-of-9 shooting and junior Wendell Moore Jr., posted seven points, five boards and six assists in an all-around effort.
Duke returns to Cameron Indoor Stadium on Saturday for a 2 p.m. matchup with NC State. The game will air on ABC.
