DURHAM – The Duke wrestling team (4-8) will host Virginia (5-2) on Friday, Jan. 26, in its 2023-24 ACC opener in Cameron Indoor Stadium. First bout is slated for 7 p.m. Friday's match will recognize Duke's centennial celebration, marking 100 years since Trinity College became Duke University.

CENTENNIAL CELEBRATION
• In 2024, Duke celebrates its Centennial, marking one hundred years since Trinity College became Duke University. A CLOSER LOOK AT THE SERIES
•  Duke and Virginia will face each other for the 71st time in school history.  The series dates back to 1929 with the Cavaliers holding a 62-7-2 advantage. 
 
• The last time Duke defeated Virginia was on Feb. 3, 2018 with a 19-16 victory in Cameron Indoor Stadium. The Cavaliers have won 16 out of the last 17 matches in the series.
 
ACC Wrestler of the Week
• On Jan. 23, 
Connor Barket was named ACC Wrestler of The Week, after posting two victories in the same week against Gardner-Webb and Chattanooga.
 
• The wrestler of the week honor for the Blue Devils was the first since Josh Finesilver earned the honor on Jan. 4, 2022.
 
• Barket tallied his third tech fall of the season against Chattanooga's Kendrick Curtis. Barket showcased his dominance early and came away with the 18-2 victory.  He also collected an efficient pin in the second period against   Gardner-Webb's Peyton McComas.
 
NOTEABLES
• A native of Mount Gilead, Ohio., 
Conor Becker registered his first pin of the season and second of his career against Chattanooga's Logan Webster in the 184-pound bout. Becker went up early, 3-0, with a takedown 30 seconds into the match and sealed the win by a fall just over a minute later. 
 
• Freshman 
Sean O'Donnell recorded his first victory of the season with a 11-8 decision over Chattanooga's Dayne Dalrymple in an exhibition match.
 
• 
Connor Barket has won five out of his last six dual matches with wins against Chattanooga, Gardner-Webb, Queens, The Citadel, and Davidson.
 
• Barket and 
Gaetano Console, who are sophomores, own 13 and nine wins, respectively, on the season to surpass their freshman year totals. After combining for five wins together in 2022-23, the duo have 22 so far this season. Console has registered wins out of his last five dual matches. 
 
• Barket (13-11), Console (9-9) and senior 
Login Agin (9-10) lead the team in wins ahead of ACC play.
 
• Graduate student 
Jarred Papcsy and sophomores  Barket and Console will serve as the team's captains for the 2023-24 campaign. The trio of Blue Devils were selected to serve as captains for the first time in their careers.
