Duke Drops Road Match at No.13 Virginia Tech

BLACKSBURG, Va. – Duke wrestling traveled to Blacksburg, Va., Friday for its first ACC road match of the season and fell to No. 13 Virginia Tech, 45-0, in the Moss Arts Center.

Redshirt freshman Gaetano Console and graduate student Jarred Papcsy wrestled strong matches in tonight's dual. The Blue Devils move to 4-11 overall and 0-3 in the ACC, while the Hokies improve to 7-3 on the season and 3-0 in league action.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Papcsy wrestled hard against freshman Luke Robie, recording an escape in the final period, but fell to Robie in a late takedown, 5-1.
Console faced No. 21 Clayton Brady at the 165 weight. In the bottom position, Console gathered an escape in the first period, keeping the match close, 3-1, with his stout defense.
The Barrington Hills, Ill., native picked up another escape in the second period, which closed the gap for Console, 3-2, heading into the final period. However, a late takedown by Brady closed the bout, 8-2.
Freshman David Hussey, Raymond Adams, and Kwasi Bonsu competed against tough nationally-ranked competition. Wrestling No. 2 Mekhi Lewis, No. 13 Sam Latona, and No. 25 Andy Smith, respectively.
Hussey saw action in his third career dual match against No. 2 Mekhi Lewis in the 174-pound bout.
