DURHAM, N.C. – Duke men's basketball head coach
Jon Scheyer announced Wednesday the addition of
Jayce McCain to the Blue Devils' staff as Player Development Specialist.
McCain, who spent the past two seasons as a graduate assistant with the program, recently completed his master's degree at Duke and brings a strong background in player development, leadership and basketball operations.
"We're thrilled to add Jayce McCain to our staff as our Player Development Specialist," Scheyer said. "Jayce has built unique and meaningful relationships with our players, and during his time as a graduate assistant, I've seen firsthand the impact he's had on their growth and development on the court. He brings unbelievable energy and natural instincts that will make him a tremendous complement to our existing staff. Jayce is the finishing touch to what we believe is an energetic and dynamic coaching staff, and I'm excited for the influence he'll continue to have on our program."
A native of California, McCain played collegiately at Cal State San Marcos, where he captained the program to its first CCAA Tournament Championship and a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Division II tournament in 2022, and earned First Team All-League honors. He graduated as the second all-time leading scorer in school history and was active with the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
McCain also brings years of experience as a youth basketball coach and mentor, having trained and guided numerous young athletes with a focus on both on-court skills and personal development.
He earned his bachelor's degree in communication from Cal State San Marcos in 2023, before completing a master's in graduate liberal studies at Duke in 2025.
