DURHAM, N.C. - Duke Athletics is proud to announce the naming of Freeman Field at Koskinen Stadium, honoring a multi-million dollar gift that will significantly enhance the experience of Duke's men's and women's soccer and lacrosse programs. This transformational investment by alumnus and former Duke Football student-athlete, Heath Freeman T'02, reflects the Freeman family's enduring commitment to Duke's student-athletes. Their gift affirms a belief in the power of sport to shape character, strengthen community, and advance excellence across the University.
"We are incredibly grateful to Heath and the Freeman family for their generosity and vision," said Vice President and King-Compton Families Director of Athletics Nina King. "Their gift will have a profound impact on our soccer and lacrosse programs, and Freeman Field will stand as a symbol of their belief in Duke Athletics and the mission to pursue excellence in all we do."
Freeman Field will serve as the new name for the playing surface within Koskinen Stadium, home to four of Duke's most storied varsity programs. The gift will support strategic enhancements to the men's and women's soccer and lacrosse programs, ensuring Duke remains a national leader in both competition and student-athlete development as we enter the new era of collegiate athletics. It also underscores the Freeman family's long-standing relationship with Duke and Heath's desire to leave a lasting legacy that inspires future generations:
"My commitment to Duke, Duke Athletics and equality for women and men in sports is unwavering. Being a competitive athlete shaped who I am and now I'm honored to provide much-needed resources to young athletes in this new era of college athletics. I look forward to watching championship teams play on Freeman Field for decades to come."
Duke Athletics looks forward to celebrating this milestone with the community and continuing to build on the history of success that defines Blue Devil athletics.
Freeman Field at Koskinen Stadium will see its first action this Sunday, October 12, when No. 14 Duke Women's Soccer hosts No. 19 North Carolina at 1:00 p.m. The game will air live on ESPNU. Tickets are available at GoDuke.com/Tickets.
