NEED TO KNOW
- Following a three-match homestand, the ninth-ranked Duke women's soccer team (8-3-1, 3-3-0 ACC) hits the road for an ACC contest at Virginia Tech (4-8-3, 0-6-1) Saturday, Oct. 18 at 7 p.m.
- Saturday's match will be aired live on ACC Network Extra with Bailey Angle (PXP) and Tori Watson (Color) calling the action.
- Duke ranks first nationally in assists with a 3.92 per game average.
- The Blue Devils recently played five games over a span of 14 days, but is playing their fourth match over 26 days on Saturday. Duke is playing only one match this week for the fourth week in a row.  Â
- Duke moved back into the top 10 of the United Soccer Coaches poll this week and have been in the top 10 in eight of the 10 polls in 2025.
- Duke's duo of Kat Rader and Mia Minestrella were named to the Hermann Trophy Midseason Watch. They were two of 35 players selected for the prestigious award.
- First year head coach Kieran Hall has kicked off his career with the Blue Devils with a 8-3-1 ledger.

STORYLINES/OTHER BLUE DEVIL NOTES
- The Blue Devils have scored two or more goals in four matches in a row and averaged 4.0 goals a contest during that stretch.
- Senior Devin Lynch has scored in back-to-back games for the first time in her career.
- Kat Rader has scored or assisted in 10 of the 11 matches played this year. She is the only player in the ACC to have a goal or assist in all but one match this season. Rader has also scored in her last three contests she has played in.
- The Blue Devils are currently No. 10 in the latest NCAA RPI with Duke's three losses coming against No. 1 (Notre Dame), No. 2 (Virginia) and No. 20 (Wake Forest).Â
- Mia Minestrella and Kelly Walbert (1994-95) are the only Duke players in program history to score in three or more straight ACC games in back-to-back seasons. Walbert is a Duke Hall of Fame selection. These came 30 seasons apart.
- Mia Minestrella registered her eighth career goal against an ACC opponent versus Pitt. She owns four goals in six ACC matches in 2025.Â
- Kat Rader ranks second in the ACC in points per game (2.09), third in assists per game (.640) and third in assists (7). She is fourth nationally in points per game (2.09) and assists per game (.67).

THE SERIES WITH VIRGINIA TECH
- Duke and Virginia Tech will meet for the 23rd time in program history when the Blue Devils travel to Blacksburg, Va., on Saturday.
- The Blue Devils are 14-5-3 all-time against Virginia Tech, including a 5-3-2 record on the road. Duke has not lost in Blacksburg since September 28, 2014.
- Duke enters the match carrying an eight-game unbeaten streak against the Hokies. The Blue Devils hold a 6-0-2 record and 14-1 goal advantage over Virginia Tech during this stretch.
- Junior Phoebe Goldthwaite is the lone Blue Devil with a goal recorded against the Hokies in her career. Goldthwaite scored the game-winner as a freshman in Duke's 1-0 victory on October 19, 2023, during Duke's last trip to Blacksburg.
- The teams last faced each other on November 30, 2024, in the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament. The Blue Devils prevailed 1-0 in Durham to book a trip to the College Cup. Fifth year defender Katie Groff scored the game-winning goal off an assist from Cameron Roller.

SCOUTING VIRGINIA tech
- The Hokies enter the match with a 4-8-3 record after their 0-1 loss at California on Sunday. The team is 0-6-1 in ACC play.
- Virginia Tech is 2-2-2 in home games this season. The Hokies own a 15-9 goal advantage in matches played in Blacksburg.
- Senior Natalie Mitchell leads Virginia Tech in scoring with six goals on the season. The Hokies have three different players with four assists on the year (Mitchell and freshmen Hannah Pachan and Ellie Robertson).
- After starting the season ranked No. 14 and jumping out to a 3-0-0 record, the Hokies have gone 1-8-3 in their last 12 matches. ACC opponents have outscored Virginia Tech 17-7 in seven games.
- Virginia Tech is in its 15th season under head coach Charles "Chugger" Adair. The Hokies are coming off a 14-6-3 season in 2024 that saw them go 6-2-2 in ACC play and reach the NCAA Elite Eight.

- Duke sophomore Mia Oliaro and junior Phoebe Goldthwaite played with Virginia Tech's Gabby Ciocca on the 2024 NC Courage USL W League summer team together. The team won the championship.
- Oliaro and Ciocca both went to Chapel Hill High School and live in the same neighborhood.Â

ON THE ROAD
- In four road contests, Duke has totaled a 2-2 ledger this season. The Blue Devils totaled shutouts at Arkansas and Miami.
- Mia Minestrella has scored four of Duke's six goals scored on the road this year with Kat Rader and Devin Lynch adding the other tallies.
- Minestrella posted the game-winning goals in both wins.
- The Blue Devils have collected 17.3 shots a game and 1.5 goals a contest.

WHAT HAPPENED LAST TIME AGAINST THE HOKIES
- Katie Groff scored a goal in the 33rd minute with an assist from Cameron Roller to lead Duke to a 1-0 victory over Virginia Tech on Nov. 30, 2024.Â
- The win sent the Blue Devils to the NCAA College Cup.
- Duke's defense limited the Hokies to only four shots, while the Blue Devils had 13 attempts.Â
- Leah Freeman netted a shutout in goal for the Blue Devils with three saves.

LAST TIME OUT
- No. 14 Duke totaled a 3-2 victory over 19th-ranked North Carolina to close a three-match homestand in Durham.
- The three goals equaled the most Duke has scored in program history against the Tar Heels.
- The Blue Devils received three second half goals from Carina Lageyre, Avery Oder and Devin Lynch.Â
- Lageyre totaled her first goal of the season and Oder scored for the first time since Sept. 4 against VMI.Â

RADER HAVING IMPRESSIVE SEASON
- Redshirt junior Kat Rader is quietly having a very impressive season with eight goals, seven assists and 23 points.Â
- She has totaled at least a goal or assist in 10 of the 11 matches with the lone exception being at Miami.Â
- Rader owns two multi-goal performances and has notched goals in three straight contests against Notre Dame, Wake Forest and Pitt.Â

YOUNG DEFENSE
- The Blue Devils have started at the most three freshmen and a sophomore in goal for some of the season so far.
- Lexi Coughlin has started all 12 matches, while Daya King has started 11 and Jocelyn Travers has started four.Â
- Of the 12 matches, a pair of sophomores -- Caroline Dysart (11) and Bianca Dominguez (1) -- have started in goal. Â
- In the ACC, only Clemson features a backline that has started three freshmen at once, but its goalkeeper is a graduate student.Â
