CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Duke freshman forward
Cameron Boozer was named both ACC Player and Rookie of the Week, the conference announced on Monday, Nov. 17. Boozer averaged 25.0 points, 10.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists, 2.5 steals and 2.5 blocked shots per game, while shooting 70.8% from the field and 50.0% on 3-point attempts during the Blue Devils' 2-0 week.
Against Indiana State (Nov. 14), Boozer amassed 35 points, 12 rebounds, five assists, three steals and three blocks, connecting on 13-of-16 field goals and both 3-point shots in 29 minutes of action. He became the first major conference freshman to reach 30 points, 10 rebounds and five assists with no more than one turnover since Carmelo Anthony of Syracuse in 2003. Boozer also joined Zion Williamson (2019) and Christian Laettner (1990) as the third Duke player in the past 45 years to reach 35 points in a double-double performance.
At Army (Nov. 11), Boozer tallied 15 points, nine boards, four assists, two steals and two rejections in 26 minutes.
Over the last 12Â seasons (since the start of 2013-14), Duke has had an ACC Rookie of the Week in 100 of a possible 206 weeks (48.5%). Twenty-seven different Blue Devils have won the award at least once in that time. The Blue Devils have now had an ACC Player of the Week 153Â total times, second most in the league, trailing only North Carolina (158).
A native of Miami, Fla., Boozer shared this week's ACC Player and Rookie of the Week recognitions with Mikel Brown Jr., of Louisville.
No. 5 Duke (4-0) next takes the court on Tuesday, Nov. 18, when it battles No. 24 Kansas (3-1) in the nightcap of the annual State Farm® Champions Classic. The Blue Devils and Jayhawks are scheduled to tipoff at 9 p.m., at Madison Square Garden. Fans can watch live on ESPN.Â
