Blue Devils Fall on the Road at No. 16 Pitt

PITTSBURGH, Pa. — The Duke wrestling team traveled to Pittsburgh this weekend and dropped a 42-0 decision to the Panthers at Fitzgerald Field House Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the Blue Devils fall to 4-12, 0-4, while Pitt improved to 9-3, 2-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED

At 133 pounds, Duke's Raymond Adams fell behind to Tyler Chappell, 3-0, but was able to register a pair of escapes and then a takedown in the second period to go ahead, 5-3.With the bout even, 5-5, in the third period, Chappell collected a takedown with 18 seconds remaining in the match to secure the victory.
Down 11-1 in the third period, SP O'Donnell registered a reversal and near fall late as he dropped a major decision, 18-6, to 22nd-ranked Finn Soloman at 149 pounds.
Duke's Gaetano Console wrestled an outstanding match against 19th-ranked Luca Augustine at 174 pounds.Console posted a take down in the first period to take a 3-0 lead.Leading, 3-2, heading into the third period, Console notched an escape to start the third to go ahead, 4-2.Augustine was able to post a takedown with 41 seconds remaining to take the lead, 5-4, and earned the win.
In the final bout of the afternoon at heavyweight, Blue Devil redshirt sophomore Connor Barket faced 13th-ranked Dayton Pitzer.Pitzer went ahead, 3-0, early in the first period with a takedown. Barket added two escapes and trailed, 3-2, heading into the final period of the day.Pitzer grabbed a reversal and Barket couldn't get any more points in the 6-2 loss.

NOTES

Duke's 27th-ranked Aidan Wallace did not wrestle as he was dealing with an illness.

WHAT IS NEXT

Duke will next travel to Charlottesville, Va., on Feb. 7 for a league bout against Virginia at 7 p.m.
