DURHAM, N.C. – Redshirt junior
Kat Rader registered a brace as top-ranked Duke women's soccer collected a 3-0 victory against Northwestern Thursday evening inside Koskinen Stadium.
The Blue Devils moved to 2-0 on the season, while Northwestern dropped to 2-1. Duke freshman
Avery Oder continued her hot start to her career adding her second goal over the first two contests.
How It Happened
- The Blue Devils opened the match taking the first four shots and then connected on a goal at the 14:48 mark to take a 1-0 lead.Senior Devin Lynch passed to junior Mia Oliaro, who found a streaking redshirt junior Kat Rader.A native of Stuart, Fla., Rader drove to the 25-yard mark and blasted a rocket that went off the goalkeeper's hands and into the back of the net.
- Less than five minutes later Duke doubled its lead as Lynch launched a long pass from just past the midfield mark.A Wildcat defender tried to clear, but it bounced off another defender and rookie Avery Oder won a free ball against the Northwestern keeper and had a wide-open goal.Duke took a 2-0 lead as Oder scored her second goal in as many contests.
- The Blue Devils had a couple of header attempts that just went over the crossbar by Cameron Roller and Mia Minestrella in the first half.
- Duke held an 8-1 shot advantage with four shots being on goal.Minestrella led the way with three attempts, while Oder had two.
- Duke increased its lead to 3-0 in the 57th minute as Oliaro passed to Minestrella along the right side of the box and then sent a perfect ball to a sliding Rader, who redirected the ball inside the near post for the goal.
- In the 69th minute, Blue Devil goalkeeper Caroline Dysart made a great save on a Northwestern attempt inside the box by Alex Fallon.
- Duke held a 14-4 advantage in shots for the night with six being on target.Minestrella posted a team-high five attempts, while Oder and Rader each had three.

- The Blue Devils now feature a 15-match unbeaten streak at home and a 13-match winning streak against non-conference foes at home.
- Avery Oder became just the eighth Blue Devil to score a goal in her first two contests with the last being Michelle Cooper (2021).
- Kat Rader totaled her 22nd career goal and 54th point.
- Mia Oliaro has now scored a goal or registered an assist in 13 out of the past 17 matches dating back to last season. In 44 contests in college, when she nets a point in a game her team is undefeated (17-0).
- Oliaro tied a career high with two assists on the night.It marked her third career match with two assists.
- Rader totaled her third career multi-goal performance of her career.
- Carolina Dysart made her first collegiate start in goal and played the entire 90 minutes. She finished with one save. Duke opened the season with three goals in back-to-back games for the first time since the 2016 season.
