COTE D'IVOIRE, Africa – Former Duke women's basketball standout Elizabeth Balogun and the Nigerian Women's National Team reeled in the 2025 FIBA Women's AfroBasket gold medal after posting a 78-64 triumph over Mali in the title game Sunday.
With the victory, Nigeria pushed its win streak to 29 games and captured an unprecedented fifth consecutive FIBA Women's AfroBasket championship – becoming the first team to achieve the feat. Nigeria's title also earned the team qualification to the 2026 FIBA Women's World Cup slated to take place in Berlin, Germany next summer.
Balogun started all five games for Nigeria and averaged 6.6 points and 3.6 rebounds in 22.1 minutes per game. The Lagos, Nigeria product tallied two double-figure games during the FIBA event, netting 18 points in the opening game against Rwanda before chipping in 11points in the quarterfinal dub over Cameroon.
