CHARLOTTE, N.C.—Duke freshman
Arianna Roberson was named the ACC Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week following a pair of strong performances in a 2-0 week for the Blue Devils.
Roberson, registering 14 points in the first quarter, had her best offensive outing in a 78-74 Duke win at California Thursday. The San Antonio, Texas, native finished the game with a career-high 20 points on 8-of-11 shooting and 3-of-3 from the charity stripe. She also was outstanding on the glass with eight rebounds, including four on the offensive end, while also matching her career high with three steals.
Three days later, Roberson had a solid all-around game with six points, six rebounds, two assists, two steals and a block in just 15 minutes of action. The 6-4 center finished the week averaging 13 points, seven rebounds, 2.5 steals and 1.5 assists in a total of 40 minutes of action on the court.
In her five ACC contests, Roberson is averaging 9.2 points and 6.6 rebounds per game. She leads all Blue Devils in offensive rebounds per game (2.6) in ACC play, while ranking second in overall rebounding.
Playing in 14 games overall, she is averaging 8.0 points and 5.6 rebounds per game in just an average of 17 minutes per outing. Roberson and the Blue Devils are riding an eight-game win streak and are one of two ACC teams to remain unbeaten in league play.
Duke (11-6, 6-0) returns to Cameron Indoor Stadium for games against Virginia (Jan. 15) and Georgia Tech (Jan. 18) before hitting the road again. Tipoff against the Cavaliers is set for 8 p.m., while the Yellow Jackets and Blue Devils tangle at 6 p.m., Sunday.
