Four Blue Devils Register Road ACC Wins Friday at Virginia Tech

DURHAM, N.C. — Duke wrestling received victories from Spencer von Savoye, Dylan Ross, Aidan Wallace and Connor Barket Friday evening in a road contest at sixth-ranked Virginia Tech, which was contested at Cassell Coliseum.

Virginia Tech totaled a 26-17 victory to close ACC action. With the loss, the Blue Devils dropped to 6-13, 0-6 in the ACC, while the Hokies improved to 11-3, 6-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Duke's Spencer von Savoye got the match started with a victory for the second contest in a row at 125 pounds. Going up against Ryan Messick of the Hokies, von Savoye registered a takedown early to go ahead, 3-0, and then collected a nearfall to take a 5-0 advantage. After an escape by Messick, the score went to 5-1. With a reversal, von Savoye increased his lead to 7-1 and eventually registered an 11-2 major decision.
Junior Raymond Adams put up a great fight against 22nd-ranked Tom Crook at 141 pounds. Crook took a 3-0 lead and led 5-1 before Adams netted a takedown to cut into the lead, 5-4. Adams ended up dropping a 7-4 decision.
The Blue Devils put more points on the board in the 149-pound class as Dylan Ross collected a 4-1 overtime win against Chris Bacchioni. After a scoreless first period, Ross collected a takedown in the second. Bacchioni evened the match with an escape in the third. As time was expiring, Ross nearly registered a nearfall, but it was taken off the board. Just 25 seconds into overtime, Ross collected a takedown to total a 4-1 win.
Virginia Tech forfeited at 174 pounds to give the Blue Devils six points on the board.
To close out the night, 20th-ranked Connor Barket collected an 8-0 victory over Parker Ferrell at heavyweight. Barket opened with a takedown in the first period to go ahead, 3-0. He added an escape in the second to lead, 4-0, heading into the fourth. Barket, who hails from West Lafayette, Indiana, added four more points to close with an 8-0 major decision.

NOTES

With his victory, Spencer von Savoye won his second consecutive ACC bout and collected his third win of the season.
Redshirt freshman Dylan Ross collected his 15th win of the season and fourth in ACC action.
Connor Barket improved to 19-5 overall on the season and 13-3 in dual match action. He posted his 10th career ACC victory and his fourth of the season.

WHAT IS NEXT

Duke closes the regular season Sunday, Feb. 22 as the Blue Devils host Cornell for senior day. The Blue Devils will honor seven seniors prior to the match, which kicks off at 12 p.m., inside Penn Pavilion on Duke's campus.
