Barket Collects Win on Senior Day

DURHAM, N.C. — Prior to Sunday's regular season finale against Cornell, the Duke wrestling program honored seven seniors. Senior Connor Barket collected an impressive 18-4 major decision against Cornell after being recognized inside Penn Pavilion on Duke's campus. As a team, Duke dropped a 42-4 decision on the day.

HOW IT HAPPENED

In the final bout of the afternoon in the heavyweight class, Duke's Connor Barket faced Cornell's Cy Kruse.The duo went through a scoreless first period and then Barket started to take control.Barket, who hails from West Lafayette, Indiana, took an 8-1 lead through two periods.He then closed by adding 10 more points in the third to take an 18-4 major decision.
In a ranked battle at 174 pounds, Duke's 23rd-ranked Aidan Wallace went up against second-ranked Simon Ruiz.Ruiz registered a takedown in the first period to lead, 3-0, after three minutes.After the second period, Wallace trailed, 6-0.He got on the board to start the third with an escape, but ended up dropping an 8-1 decision.
Duke redshirt freshman Owen McGrory put up a good battle with Carson Crace of Cornell.McGrory and Crace went through two scoreless periods, before Crace notched an escape in the third to go ahead, 1-0.Crace concluded the match with an additional riding time point to collect a 2-0 decision.

NOTES

Prior to the match, Duke honored seven seniors – Nick Tattini, Gaetano Console, Connor Barket, Cameron Morgan, Natty Lapinski, Tyler O'Boyle and Aurelius Dunbar.
Duke dropped to 6-13, 0-6 in the ACC, while Cornell improved to 9-7 on the year.
Connor Barket moved to 20-5 on the season and 14-3 in dual match play. His 20 wins on the season rank seventh-most in Duke's heavyweight history for a single season. Barket has notched back-to-back 20-win seasons.

Duke will next compete in the ACC Championship Sunday, March 9 in Blacksburg, Virginia.
