Duke begins a three-game homestand Sunday against SMU. Tipoff is 2 p.m., on the CW. The last remaining unbeaten team in ACC play, Duke has won 14 straight and is 17-6 overall and 12-0 in league action. Its last loss came Dec. 4 against LSU. The 12-0 start in ACC play is Duke's best under head coach Kara Lawson. The last time a Duke team won more than 10 conference games to start was in 2012-13 - going 15-0 en route to a 17-1 conference record. The 14-game win streak is the longest under head coach Kara Lawson and the longest since the 2012-13 team started 16-0.
Duke's six losses are against the current NET No. 5 LSU, No. 2 UCLA, No. 4 South Carolina, No. 22 West Virginia, No. 27 Baylor and No. 83 South Florida. The Blue Devils are led on offense by sophomore Toby Fournier's 17.6 points per game. Taina Mair is having a career year, averaging 11.6 points, 5.2 assists and 5.2 rebounds per game. Ashlon Jackson is playing both ends of the court at an elite level, dropping 11.7 points per game, a team-best 47 three-pointers and 4.4 assists per game, while drawing the toughest perimeter defensive matchup for Duke's elite defense. Fournier, Arianna Roberson and Delaney Thomas lead the charge on the glass, averaging 7.9, 6.0 and 5.7 rebounds per game, respectively. Thomas also contributes 10.4 points per game on a team-high 63 percent shooting, while Roberson adds 8.5 points and 1.2 blocks per game. Fournier is the top rim protector, averaging 2.2 blocks per game.
Duke and SMU meet for just the third time and for the first time inside Cameron Indoor Stadium. The Blue Devils are 2-0 versus the Mustangs, winning last season in Dallas and in 2006 in a neutral site game in Cancun, Mexico. The average margin of victory for Duke against SMU is 32.5 points.
Last Time Out Notes
Duke captured its first win over a top-10 team this season, edging No. 6 Louisville, 59-58, Thursday night. It is Duke's 22nd top-25 win under head coach Kara Lawson and the 11th against a top-10 foe. The Blue Devils are 11-4 against teams ranked 6-10 during Lawson's tenure.
The Blue Devils became just the second ACC squad to outrebound the Cardinals, including the game-sealing defensive board by Riley Nelson. The victory also marked Duke's first at the KFC Yum! Center.
Duke limited the Cardinals to season lows in both shooting percentage (.339) and made field goals (21) after Louisville entered the contest shooting .463 from the field.
We're Going Streaking
Duke's 14-game win streak currently stands tied for fourth among Division I programs. The Blue Devils have been impressive in this stretch, averaging 79.1 points per game, posting a +24.7 scoring margin and shooting 47 percent. On the glass, Duke sports a +8.4 rebounding margin.
Defensively, the Blue Devils are holding opponents to just 54.4 points per game, 36 percent shooting and forcing 17.8 turnovers per game.
Inside the ACC
The Blue Devils have been firing on both ends of the court and are the only team to rank in the top five of the major statistics in conference play.
Duke's offense has been steady in conference play, ranking first in scoring margin (22.8), second in assists (18.0), third in field goal percentage (.466) and fourth in three-point percentage (.352) and scoring offense (77.8).
Individually on offense, Toby Fournier ranks fourth in league scoring average at 18.3 points per game. Taina Mair (4.9) and Ashlon Jackson (4.8) are fourth and fifth in assists, respectively.
Defensively, Duke is one of the best in the ACC. The Blue Devils lead the league in scoring defense (55.1), opponent three-point percentage (.252) and turnover margin (4.42), sit second in opponent field goal percentage (.360), third in opponent rebounding (33.8) and blocks (6.00) and fifth in overall rebounding (41.1).
Individual Numbers Inside the Win Streak
Toby Fournier has shined for the Blue Devils during the 14-game win streak, averaging 18.9 points and 9.1 rebounds per game. She is shooting 56 percent in this stretch.
Overall, Duke has five players averaging double digits over the 14 games. Three players are averaging at least 3.3 assists per game during the win streak, including Riley Nelson, who has upped her assist average from 1.6 to 3.3. Ashlon Jackson is dropping 5.1 dimes per game compared to 3.3 in the first nine games.
