OAK RIDGE, Tenn. – No. 19 Duke rowing closed out the second day of the Oak Ridge Cardinal Invitational Sunday with the Varsity Eight, Varsity Four and Second Varsity Four earning first-place finishes.
As a team, the Blue Devils won 12 of their 15 races during the two-day regatta, while collecting a second-place finish and pair of third-place finishes in their remaining races.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Third Varsity Eight opened the morning racing with a third-place time of 7:05.843, following closely behind a pair of boats from North Carolina.
- The Second Varsity Four and Varsity Four glided to first-place finishes, clocking times of 7:33.580 and 7:27.682, respectively, to complete the weekend sweep.
- In the Second Varsity Eight race, the Blue Devils crossed the finish line in 6:45.028 for a strong second-place finish. The 2V8 was just four seconds behind the first-place Tar Heels and over 21 seconds ahead of the crew from Navy.
- The Varsity Eight crew followed with their third first-place finish of the weekend, registering the winning time of 6:34.864 in Duke's final race of the day.
