KANSAS CITY — Duke head coach
Jon Scheyer has been named the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Division I Coach of the Year, as voted on by NABC-member coaches across NCAA Division I.
In his fourth season, Scheyer led Duke to a 35-3 overall record and a 17-1 mark in ACC play. The Blue Devils captured both the ACC regular-season and ACC Tournament championships and earned the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament, advancing to the Elite Eight.
Duke's dominance extended across the schedule, as the Blue Devils posted 13 victories over AP top-25 opponents, including wins against No. 1 Michigan, No. 7 Michigan State, No. 10 St. John's, No. 10 and No. 11 Virginia, No. 15 Florida, No. 17 North Carolina, No. 20 Louisville (twice), No. 20 Clemson, No. 22 Arkansas, No. 24 SMU and No. 25 Kansas. Duke's 11 regular-season wins over ranked opponents tied the all-time record in AP poll history, while the Blue Devils became the first ACC team to win at least 10 regular-season games against ranked foes.
The Blue Devils also recorded six double-digit victories over ranked opponents, the program's highest total since the 2001-02 season, and compiled one of the nation's most demanding schedules. Sixteen of Duke's 31 regular-season contests came against NCAA Tournament teams, including eight in non-conference play.
On the court, Duke outscored opponents by an average of 18 points per game while holding teams to under 40 percent shooting, reflecting the program's balance and efficiency on both ends of the floor.
Scheyer's early success continues to place him among the top coaches in the sport. His 124 career wins are the most by any Division I head coach through their first four seasons, and his 25 victories over AP-ranked opponents during that span also lead the nation.
Earlier this season, Scheyer became the fastest head coach in ACC history to reach 100 career wins and the second-fastest Division I head coach to reach the milestone in the last 45 years.
Duke's 2025-26 résumé also featured marquee victories over several of the game's most accomplished active coaches, including John Calipari, Bill Self, Rick Pitino and Tom Izzo, along with an exhibition win over Rick Barnes.
Scheyer was previously named the ACC Coach of the Year after leading Duke to a 29-2 regular-season record and a No. 1 national ranking, and he earned NABC South Atlantic District Coach of the Year honors for the second consecutive season.
Scheyer becomes the first Duke recipient of the honor since Mike Krzyzewski in 1999.
