Duke Sweeps All 10 Races on Day One of Lake Wheeler Invitational

RALEIGH, N.C. – The Blue Devils swept all 10 races they competed in during the opening day of the Lake Wheeler Invitational.

The Blue Devils wrapped up the first two rounds with 66 points, tied for first with No. 8 Virginia, in the team standings. No. 13 Alabama (50), No. 21 North Carolina (50) and No. 15 Miami (48) rounded out the top five heading into the final round Saturday morning.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Blue Devils' Third Varsity Eight opened the morning with an exciting first-place finish, edging the crew from Boston College at the finish line to record a time of 6:51.180, just 0.480 ahead of the Eagles.
Duke's Second Varsity Four followed with the winning-time of 7:21.360, finishing about two seats up on the second-place Sooners.
The Varsity Four followed with a dominant performance, collecting an open water win over Louisville and Oklahoma, placing second and third, respectively. The crew of coxswain Ava Kellman, Vivian Teeley, Vivienne Foley, Adler Amolsch and Scarlet Perry registered the top time of 7:16.490.
The Blue Devils' Second Varsity Eight and Varsity Eight boats concluded the first round with their first-place finishes over Oklahoma and Louisville, clocking times of 6:38.630 and 6:27.070, respectively.
Duke carried the momentum into the afternoon session with the Third Varsity Eight and Second Varsity Four boats powering through the final 250 meters to earn their second wins of the day, crossing the finish line in 6:58.580 and 7:30.710.
The Second Varsity Eight and Varsity Eight both improved their times from the morning en route to first-place finishes with times of 6:34.010 and 6:26.490, respectively.
