DURHAM, N.C. - The Blue Devil trio of Aidan Maguire, Aminah Vega and Kaelyn Gridley have been selected as Duke's Male and Female Senior Student-Athletes of the Year for the 2025-26 campaign.
The three Blue Devils join a storied past of Duke senior student-athletes who have been recognized by the university for pairing athletic success with excellence in the classroom. Maguire is a Division I outstanding player of the year award winner with the men's lacrosse team, Vega is a two-time All-American in softball, and Gridley is a 12-time All-American swimmer.
A two-time consensus first-team All-American, Maguire was a generational defensive midfielder for the Blue Devils. The Hingham, Massachusetts, native led Duke's rope unit throughout his time in Durham, earning the 2025 Lt. Donald MacLaughlin National Midfielder of the Year and ACC Co-Defensive Player of the Year as a junior. He followed that this season by becoming just the third Blue Devil and first short-stick defensive midfielder in the sport's history to win the USILA Lt. Raymond J. Enners Outstanding Player of the Year award. Maguire also was the first defensive middie to be taken first overall in a professional lacrosse draft.
A true two-way player as one of the top takeaway artists in lacrosse, Maguire also was an incredible threat in transition with 35 points from 19 goals and 16 assists in 72 games. It is the most points by a short-stick midfielder since Will Haus had 36 points in 79 career games. As a junior, Maguire recorded 26 caused turnovers to tie for fifth among SSDM's in NCAA single-season history and seventh overall in Blue Devil lore. Maguire, anchoring one of the nation's best defenses, added 17 caused turnovers to his career total. In 72 career games, Maguire had 68 caused turnovers, the most of any defensive midfielder in program history and fifth overall at Duke.
Maguire's classroom achievements were recognized as a member of the 2025-26 CSC Academic All-District At-Large Team.
Vega, a two-time NFCA First Team All-American, was the engine behind one of the nation's top offenses as she led the Blue Devils in batting average (.462), runs (87), doubles (21), triples (5) and total bases (174) during the 2026 campaign. The DeBary, Florida, native rewrote the Duke record books in her final season, setting the career doubles record with 67 and establishing the single-season doubles mark with 21, passing Claire Davidson's mark of 20, set in 2024.
Vega, a four-year starter at second base, sits second in Duke history with 301 career hits and became the program's career home run leader during the 2026 NCAA Super Regional at Arkansas with her 55th career long ball to pass Ana Gold's 54. She became the first Blue Devil in program history to garner NFCA All-America distinction twice and is the only player to earn NFCA All-Region and All-ACC First Team honors in four consecutive seasons.
Vega also excelled in the classroom, picking up NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete and All-ACC Academic Team recognition in all four seasons. She graduated in May with her degree in psychology and turned in a 3.83 GPA.
A product of Wilmette, Illinois, Gridley capped her legendary Duke swimming and diving career as one of the most decorated athletes in program history. Gridley totaled 18 top-five placements with 16 podium finishes and 12 event wins during the 2025-26 season, culminating the year with a bronze medal in the 200-yard breaststroke at the 2026 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships, the highest finish by a Duke woman all-time, and All-America honors in the 100 and 200 breaststroke and the 200 and 400-medley relays.
For her career, Gridley compiled 63 podium finishes and racked up 12 All-America honors, the most by a Blue Devil in program lore. Her name sits atop the program charts in the 100 and 200 breaststroke, while also being a part of the program's fastest 200 and 400-medley relays. She became the first Duke swimmer to win an ACC title in the 100 breaststroke in 2025 and took fifth at the 2024 U.S. Olympic Team Trials in the 200 breaststroke.
Outside of the pool, Gridley graduated this past May with a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering with a minor in economics and a 3.435 GPA. She was a four-time All-ACC Academic Team selection and a two-time CSCAA Scholar All-American honoree.
