DURHAM, N.C. – Six members of the Duke women's tennis team –
Claire An,
Irina Balus,
Katie Codd,
Liv Hovde,
Ava Krug and
Eleana Yu – were honored as Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Scholar-Athletes this week, as announced by the organization.
Codd was selected for the fourth straight year, while Yu earned accolades for the third time and Balus received the honor for the second year in a row. Both Hovde and Krug received the honor for the first time in their careers.
As a team, Duke was recognized by the ITA after being named to the All-Academic Team once again. The Blue Devils featured a 3.80 grade-point average (GPA) in the spring to close the season.
The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team GPA of 3.20 or above (on a 4.0 scale). All varsity letterwinners were factored into the cumulative team GPA for the current academic year.
To earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status, a player must meet the following criteria – have a GPA of at least 3.5 (on a 4.0 scale) for the current academic year and be listed on the institutional eligibility form.
The Blue Devils registered a 20-8 overall record and advanced to the round of 16 of the NCAA Tournament this past season under head coach
Jamie Ashworth.
