DURHAM, N.C.— Duke men's lacrosse seniors
Aidan Maguire and
Henry Bard were recognized recently for their academic and athletic excellence, garnering USILA Scholar All-America honors. Maguire also picked up a prestigious College Sports Communicators Academic All-America recognition to add to his career award haul.
Maguire landed on the CSC Academic All-America At-Large Third team to become the eighth different Blue Devil to earn a CSC Academic All-America award. He also was selected as the Duke Male Senior Student-Athlete of the Year and was named to the ACC Excellence Award list.
Bard and Maguire are the 59th and 60th Blue Devils to earn USILA Scholar All-America accolades. The Blue Devils also were one of 46 teams to win a USILA Team Academic Award for posting a team GPA over 3.0. Duke finished the academic year with a 3.55 team GPA.
A two-time consensus first-team All-American, Maguire was a generational defensive midfielder for the Blue Devils. The Hingham, Massachusetts, native led Duke's rope unit throughout his time in Durham, earning the 2025 Lt. Donald MacLaughlin National Midfielder of the Year and ACC Co-Defensive Player of the Year as a junior. He followed that this season by becoming just the third Blue Devil and first short-stick defensive midfielder in the sport's history to win the USILA Lt. Raymond J. Enners Outstanding Player of the Year award. Maguire also was the first defensive middie to be taken first overall in a professional lacrosse draft.
A true two-way player as one of the top takeaway artists in lacrosse, Maguire also was an incredible threat in transition with 35 points from 19 goals and 16 assists in 72 games. It is the most points by a short-stick midfielder since Will Haus had 36 points in 79 career games. As a junior, Maguire recorded 26 caused turnovers to tie for fifth among SSDM's in NCAA single-season history and seventh overall in Blue Devil lore. Maguire, anchoring one of the nation's best defenses, added 17 caused turnovers to his career total. In 72 career games, Maguire had 68 caused turnovers, the most of any defensive midfielder in program history and fifth overall at Duke.
Maguire graduated with a degree in political science, posting a 3.51 GPA this past year.
A three-year starter on close defense, Bard turned in his best campaign this past season with 18 caused turnovers and 23 ground balls. He was instrumental in helping lead the nation's No. 7-ranked defensive unit, forcing turnovers in 11 games and ranking third on the team with a career-best 18 takeaways.
A starter in 42 of 68 games played, Bard finished his career with 52 caused turnovers and 70 ground balls. He helped Duke to a pair of championship weekends and to the 2023 NCAA Championship game. His 52 forced turnovers are tied for 11th in program history.
Bard is a four-time All-ACC Academic Team honoree and graduated in May with a degree in economics. He posted a 3.53 GPA his senior year.
The Blue Devils finished the season 11-5 and advanced to the NCAA Semifinals before falling to eventual national champion Princeton.
