Balogun Selected to Nigeria Roster for FIBA World Cup

DURHAM, N.C. – Former Blue Devil Elizabeth Balogun will represent Nigeria at the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup 2026 the Nigeria Basketball Federation recently announced. Nigeria has won five consecutive Women's AfroBasket titles.
Balogun joins Duke alumnae Chelsea Gray and Miela Sowah (Goodchild) who will represent the United States and Australia, respectively, at the World Cup. Duke head coach Kara Lawson will lead the United States as Women's National Team Head Coach.
A mainstay on the Nigerian roster over the past few years, Balogun averaged 6.6 points and 3.6 rebounds in the FIBA Women's AfroBasket for the D'Tigress. In International competition, Balogun is averaging 7.8 points and 3.0 rebounds per game. She most recently put up 10.6 points per game in the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup 2026 Qualifying Tournament.
Balogun recently signed a development player contract with the New York Liberty of the WNBA. A 6-1 forward, she averaged 12.3 points, 6.3 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 1.4 steals and 1.4 blocks per game in 17 French LFB contests with Landerneau in 2025-26.
Balogun finished her collegiate career (2018-23) with averages of 9.5 points, 4.6 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 1.0 steals and 1.1 blocks in 24.4 minutes per game over 150 appearances (123 starts). She spent her final two seasons (2021-23) at Duke and led the team in rebounds per game (5.2) while ranking second on the team in scoring with 10.2 points per game in 2022-23.
Nigeria opens World Cup action Sept. 4 against Korea at 8:30 a.m. (ET). The D'Tigress are in Group B with Hungary, Korea, and France.
