DURHAM, N.C. - Six singles players and three doubles teams from the Duke University women's tennis team will be competing in the 2000 ITA Southeast Regional Qualifying Championships from November 2-6 hosted by Wake Forest University. Action will take place at the Indoor Tennis Center on the campus in Winston-Salem, N.C.
Junior Ioana Plesu will kick things off on Thursday as the No. 1 seed in the prequalifying singles bracket. She will face Katie Hangstefer of UTC at 1:00 PM. Friday's singles qualifying action consists of sophomore Katie Granson (No. 11 seed) against Christina Snyder of N.C. A&T at 8:00 AM, sophomore Hillary Adams versus Carmina Giraldo of Clemson at 9:00 AM, freshman Amanda Johnson (No. 6 seed) versus Ana Rojas of Wisconsin at 9:30 AM, senior Kathy Sell (No. 2 seed) versus Anna Savitskaya of Clemson at 1:00 PM, and sophomore Prim Siripipat will play at 10:30 AM against one of the prequalifying players.
In the doubles qualifier, Granson/Sell are seeded No. 6 and will face the winner of Giraldo/Savitskaya of Clemson and Catherine Allen/Cynthia Oulevay of UTC at 6:00 PM on Friday. Johnson and senior Megan Miller are seeded No. 3 will take on the winner of Christina Oldock/Ana Stiglic of Clemson and Maria Alonte/Erica Heshalman of Murray State at 3:00 PM Friday. The duo of freshman Ansley Cargill/Adams are seeded No. 4 and will face the winner of Daniela Greco/Katie Hangstefer of UTC and Kerry-Lea Glass/Melissa Spencer of Murray State at 5:30 PM Friday. Finally, the duo of Plesu/Siripipat will take on the winner of Leigh Bradwell/Shannon Stafford of Kentucky and Melisa San Martin/Kelly Whitler of Louisville at 3:30 PM Friday.
Duke boasts three singles players see action this weekend that are ranked by the ITA -- Sell (No. 24), Granson (78), and Johnson (88), along with one doubles team -- Granson/Sell (No. 25).
