Duke returns five of six starters from last season and welcome one of the top recruiting classes in the nation, after posting a 23-6 record in 1999-2000. Returning for the Blue Devils are senior Megan Miller (Palm City, Fla.), senior Kathy Sell (Moorestown, N.J.), sophomore Katie Granson (Bethlehem, Pa.), sophomore Hillary Adams (New York, N.Y.), and sophomore Prim Siripipat (Mexico, Mo.). Miller (No. 10), Sell (No. 23), and Granson (No. 79) were all ranked in the preseason rankings.
The recruiting class of Ansley Cargill (Atlanta, Ga.) and Amanda Johnson (Bettendorf, Iowa) each tallied preseason rankings of No. T-59 and No. 89 respectively. Both freshmen made an impact during the fall as Cargill won the Riviera All-American and Johnson won her bracket at the Southeast Region Indoor Qualifying Championship.
Stanford University received 14 first place votes and are ranked No. 1, while Georgia (10 first place votes) and Florida (seven first place vote) are tied for second. Duke received one first place vote, while California rounded out the top five.
