Cargill, who is ranked No. 2, posted a 9-0 record in the fall as she took home the Riviera All-American singles and the Carolina Tennis Classic Flight A titles. Sell received a No. 14 ranking after posting a 6-3 record during the fall. She advanced to the quarterfinals of the Southeast Region Indoor Qualifying Championships and the consolation finals of the Riviera All-American. Johnson recorded an 11-3 record in the fall and is ranked No. 16. She won her bracket at the Southeast Region Indoor Qualifying Championships, which included a victory over No. 6 Janet Bergman of Wake Forest, and also advanced to the consolation quarterfinals of the Riviera All-American.
Senior Megan Miller (Palm City, Fla.) dropped out of the rankings after only playing in two matches in the fall. She was No. 10 in the preseason rankings. Sophomore Katie Granson also dropped out after going 2-2 in the fall (was No. 79).
In doubles, Duke boasts the No. 6 ranked duo of Johnson/Miller. During the fall, the duo posted a 13-1 record while taking home the Carolina Classic Flight A title, advanced to the Main Draw Quarterfinals of the Riviera All-American, and won the Southeast Region Indoor Qualifying Championships. Their only loss came at the hands of No. 3 ranked Lauren Kalvaria/Gabriela Lastra of Stanford (6-7 (7-5), 6-2, 0-6).
Hillary Adams (New York, N.Y.) and Cargill also received a ranking of No. 24. They posted a 5-3 record in the fall. The duo advanced to the Flight A finals of the Carolina Classic before falling to teammates Johnson/Miller, they also advanced to the third round of the Riviera All-American qualifying, and the third round of the Southeast Region Indoor Qualifying Championships. Their other two losses came against two nationally ranked opponents (No. 7 & No. 25).
Duke will open the fall season Jan. 21, 2001 at Notre Dame.
