DURHAM, N.C. - The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) released its preseason women's tennis singles and doubles rankings on Thursday as Duke received three singles players and two doubles teams ranked.
In singles, sophomore Amanda Johnson (Bettendorf, Iowa) is ranked ninth, junior Julie DeRoo (Ecully, France) is 21st, and freshman Kelly McCain (Wesley Chapel, Fla.) is 49th. Both Johnson and DeRoo moved up considerably from last year's final rankings as each were ranked 15th and 34th, respectively.
In doubles action, the Blue Devils will have all new teams due to the loss of three letterwinners from last year (Megan Miller, Kathy Sell, and Ansley Cargill). Despite the new teams, Duke received two different rankings as Johnson and freshman Susie Abromeit (Boca Raton, Fla.) are ranked 30th, while DeRoo and McCain are 37th.
The Blue Devils will open the fall season on Sept. 28-30 at the Adidas Tennis Classic in Palm Springs, Calif.
