Duke's Kelly McCain Advances To Singles Final at ITA All-American

PACIFIC PALISADES, CALIF. - Duke University fifth-ranked sophomore Kelly McCain knocked off third-ranked Agata Cioroch of Georgia in straight sets (6-4, 6-1) on Saturday at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Riviera All-American in Pacific Palisades, Calif. at the Riviera Tennis Club.
McCain, a 2002 ITA All-American from Tampa, Fla., won easily to advance to the finals on Sunday against Old Dominion's 11th-ranked Nataly Cahana, who defeated Mississippi's 17th-ranked Mira Radu (6-3, 6-4). It marks the second time in the last three years a Blue Devil has reached the finals of the Riviera All-American as Ansley Cargill won the singles title in 2000.
In the consolation doubles action, Duke's tandem of Julie DeRoo/Amanda Johnson advanced to the finals by defeating 13th-ranked Schlukebir/Tran of Indiana (8-3) on Friday and fourth-ranked Larocque/Mlakar of Arizona (8-4) on Saturday. The duo will next take on the winner of the ninth-ranked McCain/Hillary Adams of Duke versus 15th-ranked Dawaf/Rotondi.
The Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships is the first of three national championship tournaments for collegiate tennis during the 2002-03 season. The two other tournaments (for singles and doubles only) are the Omni Hotels/ITA National Indoor Championships in November and the season-ending NCAA Championships in May.
