WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Duke women's tennis team will have seven singles players competing this weekend in the 2002 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Southeast Regional held on the campus of Wake Forest University from Oct. 25-28 in Winston-Salem, N.C.
Competing in singles for the Blue Devils are -- Julie DeRoo (2), Saras Arasu (5), Julia Smith (8), Katie Granson (9), Prim Siripipat (16), Hillary Adams and Susie Abromeit. In parentheses is where the Duke players are seeded. Three Duke players who will be playing this weekend are currently ranked in the ITA rankings-- 28th-ranked DeRoo, 47th-ranked Arasu and 99th-ranked Smith.
The first round matches will begin on Friday with DeRoo taking on Carmen Torres (N.C. State), Arasu versus Elizabeth Proctor (Wake Forest), Adams versus Lindsey Peel (UNC Greensboro), Smith versus Simona Foltyn (High Point), while Granson and Siripipat will take on qualifiers yet to be determined.
In doubles action, Duke's ninth-ranked tandem of Kelly McCain/Adams are seeded first and will take on Danielle Petrisko/Shannon Stough of Kentucky on Friday at 4:30 PM. The duo of Granson/Smith are seeded fifth and will battle North Carolina State's Taylor Parker/Carmen Torres at 6:00 PM Friday.
The winning doubles team, winning singles player and the singles finalist qualify for the Omni Hotels/ITA National Indoor Championships in Dallas, Texas on Nov. 7-10.
