WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.-The ninth-ranked Duke University tandem of Kelly McCain/Hillary Adams highlighted Saturday's action at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Southeast Regionals in Winston-Salem, N.C. as the doubles duo advanced to the semifinals with two victories today.
McCain/Adams knocked off Ashleigh Murray/Laura Swain of Charlotte (8-0) and Marlene Mejia/Aniela Mojzis from North Carolina (8-2) to advance on Saturday. The Duke duo will next take on 41st-ranked Jill Buckley/Amy Trefethen from Kentucky on Sunday. The Blue Devil duo of Julia Smith/Katie Granson won their first match on Saturday over Kacie Anson/Shannon Stafford of Kentucky (8-4) before falling in the quarterfinals to Medina Bajrambasic/Marie Matrka of Coastal Carolina (8-5).
Duke's singles action was highlighted be sophomore Saras Arasu as the Tampa, Fla. native downed Kentucky's Trefethen (7-5, 6-3) to advance to the semifinals. Duke's other six singles players fell in the quarterfinals on Saturday.
The winning doubles team, winning singles player and the singles finalist qualify for the Omni Hotels/ITA National Indoor Championships in Dallas, Texas on Nov. 7-10.
