LOS ANGELES, CALIF. - Eight members of the Duke women's tennis team will compete at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-American which begins on Saturday, Oct. 5 and will go through Oct. 13. The pre-qualifying competition will take place from Oct. 5-7 on the campus of UCLA and then all play will move to the Riviera Tennis Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif. from Oct. 8-14.
Freshman Julia Smith (Windlesham, England) and senior Katie Granson (Bethlehem, Pa.) each will kick off the Blue Devil action on Saturday, Oct. 5. Smith is seeded first in the pre-qualifying competition, while Granson is seeded 16th. Smith will take on Lauren Colalillo of Arizona State at 8:30 AM in the first round and Granson will battle Karla Mancinas of TCU at 10:00 AM.
The Duke duo will also play together in doubles action and are seeded third in the pre-qualifying competition. The tandem will take on Hollands/Pouliot of Arizona in the first round on Saturday at 4:00 PM. The Blue Devil team of Saras Arasu (Tampa, Fla.) and Katie Blaszak (Fairfax, Va.) is seeded sixth and will play Gregg/Loncaric of UCLA at 3:00 PM.
Once the qualifying rounds get rolling, the Blue Devils will have Kelly McCain (Tampa, Fla.), Julie DeRoo (Ecully, France), Amanda Johnson (Bettendorf, Iowa), Arasu and Blaszak will play in singles. In doubles action, the duos of Johnson/DeRoo and McCain/Hillary Adams (Acton, Mass.) will also play.
