Duke Duo To Face Off In Singles Final at ASU Thunderbird Invitational

TEMPE, ARIZ. - Sunday will mark an all Duke singles final as Blue Devil sophomores Saras Arasu and Katie Blaszak each knocked off two ranked opponents to advance to the title match of the Arizona State University Thunderbird Invitational in Tempe, Ariz.
Arasu, the 47th-ranked Tampa, Fla. native, had the biggest victories on Saturday with wins over 53rd-ranked Mhairi Brown of Arizona State (6-2, 6-4) and ninth-ranked Adria Engel of Arizona State (7-5, 6-4). Blaszak, ranked 87th-nationally from Fairfax, Va., knocked off 49th-ranked Jieun Jacobs of California (6-3, 6-3) and 21st-ranked Dora Krstulovic of Arizona State (6-2, 6-2).
In singles consolation action, Susie Abromeit won two matches in the quarterfinal and semifinal rounds by defeating Brooke Borisoff of California (6-0, 6-4) and Marjolein Klompmaker of Northern Arizona (6-2, 6-3).
Duke's doubles tandem of Abromeit/Arasu also had a big victory on Saturday as the unranked duo knocked off third-ranked Engel/Krstulovic of Arizona State (8-6) to advance to the semifinals.
