DURHAM, N.C. -- The fourth-ranked and top-seeded Duke women's tennis team began its quest for a 15th consecutive ACC Championship on Thursday with a 4-0 victory over N.C. State at the Millbrook Exchange Tennis Center in Raleigh, N.C.
The Blue Devils took the doubles point with as both the second and third positions recorded wins. The 25th-ranked duo of Amanda Johnson/Julie DeRoo recorded an 8-2 victory over Loni Worsley/Danielle Stadelmann and Duke's tandem of Susie Abromeit/Katie Granson knocked off Jennifer Jassawalla/Landis Strader 8-2.
In singles action, the Blue Devils received quick victories at the first, second and sixth positions to clinch the victory. Duke's fifth-ranked Kelly McCain picked up her 29th win of the season with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Katrina Gildemeister at the first position. At the second slot, 17th-ranked Johnson recorded a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Nicholls and Granson posted a 6-1, 6-0 win over Strader.
The Blue Devils (22-3) will now have the day off on Friday and then take on the winner of the fourth-seeded Clemson/fifth-seeded Georgia Tech match on Saturday at 10:00 AM.
