DURHAM, N.C. - Duke University rising sophomore Kelly McCain was one of nine women's tennis players to receive a U.S. Open singles qualifying wild card entry, which will be held August 20-23 at the USTA National Tennis Center.
"This is a great opportunity and I am very excited about playing in the U.S. Open," said McCain. "I had a goal all summer to play well and I hope to conclude the summer with a good showing at the U.S. Open."
This will mark the first time in her career McCain has played in the U.S. Open. As a junior, McCain played in the Junior U.S. Open in 1998, 1999 and 2000.
As a freshman at Duke last season, McCain registered a 32-8 singles record and was ranked as high as third nationally. She earned ITA All-America honors in singles and doubles as McCain teamed with Hillary Adams to advance to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Individual Tournament.
