PACIFIC PALISADES, CALIF. - After winning four consecutive matches on the week, Duke's 18th-ranked tandem of Amanda Johnson and Tory Zawacki fell, 9-8, to sixth-ranked Jessica Rush and Christelle Grier of Northwestern on Friday at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Riviera All-American at the Riviera Tennis Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif.
Duke's duo jumped out to an early 7-4 lead, but were not able to finish off serving for the match against the very talented Northwestern doubles team.
In singles action, ninth-ranked Johnson rebounded from a first round main draw loss as she demolished 25th-ranked Courtney Bergman of Harvard, 6-1, 6-0, in the consolation bracket. The Bettendorf, Iowa product will next battle seventh-ranked Daria Panova of Oregon at 10:00 a.m. (PST) on Saturday.
