PACIFIC PALISADES, CALIF. - Duke University senior Amanda Johnson knocked off seventh-ranked Daria Panova of Oregon, 6-1, 6-1, to advance to the singles consolation final at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Riviera All-American on Sunday in Pacific Palisades, Calif.
Johnson, who is ranked ninth-nationally, won her second straight match in the consolation bracket and will look to become the second Blue Devil to capture the Riviera All-American consolation bracket title since 2001. As a junior, Julie DeRoo won the 2001 title. Johnson will next take on 34th-ranked Megan Bradley of Miami on Sunday morning at 11:30 a.m. (EST).
The victory over the seventh-ranked singles player nationally for Johnson marks the highest ranked player she has defeated in her four years at Duke.
