PACIFIC PALISADES, CALIF. - The 18th-ranked Duke doubles team of Amanda Johnson and Tory Zawacki won their third consecutive match on Wednesday to advance to the main draw of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Riviera All-American, which will begin on Thursday at the Riviera Tennis Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif.
The Duke duo began the day with an 8-4 victory over 25th-ranked Heather Saluri and Anda Perianu and then knocked off 31st-ranked Jennifer McGaffigan and Cynthia Goulet, 8-2, in the evening. The brackets for the main draw have not been released with their next opponent.
Johnson is the only singles player left for the Blue Devils at the Riviera All-American and she will play on Thursday in the main draw against 23rd-ranked Julie Smekodub of Tulane. A Bettendorf, Iowa product, Johnson is seeded eighth in the tournament.
