ANN ARBOR, MICH. - Three-time Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-America Amanda Johnson is all set to compete in the 2003 ITA National Indoor Collegiate Championships in Ann Arbor, Mich., which will take place from Nov. 6-9 at the University of Michigan Varsity Tennis Center.
Johnson will play in both the singles and doubles bracket along with freshman Tory Zawacki. In singles action, ninth-ranked Johnson will face off against 14th-ranked Jessica Carleton of UCLA on Thursday.
A Bettendorf, Iowa product, Johnson owns a 5-3 singles record in the fall, which includes victories over seventh-ranked Daria Panova of Oregon, 25th-ranked Courtney Bergman of Harvard and 17th-ranked Zerene Reyes of Florida. The senior heads into the championship with 96 victories and needs only four more to become the 15th player in Duke history to reach the 100-win mark.
In doubles play, Johnson and Zawacki will kick off the opening round against Nikkita Fountain and Larikah Russell of Southern Nazarene on Thursday. The Duke tandem owns a 4-1 record in the fall together, which includes a victory over top-ranked Lauren Barnikow and Erin Burdette of Stanford at the Riviera All-American.
The singles field is set for 32 players, while the doubles field includes 16 teams.
