CARY, N.C. - The sixth-ranked Duke women's tennis team opened up Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) action on Wednesday with a 6-1 victory over N.C. State in Cary, N.C.
The Blue Devils won their 13th consecutive doubles point as Duke swept all three doubles matches to take an early 1-0 lead. The second-ranked tandem of Amanda Johnson/Julie DeRoo downed Myrna Bawono/Carmen Torres (8-3) to win their seventh consecutive match. Duke also received victories by 16th-ranked Hillary Adams/Kelly McCain over Danielle Stadelmann/Loni Worsley (8-3) and 21st-ranked Julia Smith/Katie Granson over Jennifer Jassawalla/Landis Strader (8-0).
Duke then cruised in singles action winning five of six matches. Top-ranked Kelly McCain got things started with an easy 6-2, 6-0 victory over Bawono at the top position. Then, the Blue Devils received victories from Johnson, DeRoo, Adams and Prim Siripipat.
The Blue Devils (12-1) will next hit the road for Las Vegas, Nev. as Duke will take on Texas A&M and UNLV on Mar. 10 and 12.
