AUSTIN, TEXAS - The fourth-ranked Duke women's tennis team knocked off the 35th-ranked Texas Longhorns on Wednesday by a 4-3 score in Austin, Texas. The Blue Devils improved to 18-2 overall, while Texas fell to 8-9.

The score for the match was much closer than the match started off as the Blue Devils cruised to a 4-0 victory before falling the final three singles matches.

Duke swept the doubles action as fourth-ranked Amanda Johnson/Julie DeRoo downed 20th-ranked Kendra Strohm/Ziva Grasic (9-7) at No. 1, Kelly McCain/Hillary Adams defeated Kelly Baritot/Lindsay Blau (8-6) at No. 2 and Katie Granson/Julia Smith cruised to an 8-0 win over Macey Breece/Michelle Krinke at No. 3.

The Blue Devils kept rolling in singles play as second-ranked McCain won 6-0, 6-1 over 63rd-ranked Strohm at the first slot. Then, Granson and Adams won easily at the No. 5 and No. 6 positions, respectively to clinch the victory for Duke. Granson knocked off Blau (6-1, 6-0) and Adams defeated Breece (6-2, 6-2). Once the match was decided, the Blue Devils fell at No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4.

Duke will next host Maryland and Virginia this weekend to close out the 2003 home slate. Both matches will take place at 11:00 AM on Saturday and Sunday at the Ambler Tennis Stadium. If inclement weather arises, the matches will be moved inside the Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center. Sunday's match will mark senior day for Adams, Granson, DeRoo and Prim Siripipat.
