The fourth-ranked Duke women's tennis team celebrated Senior Day with a 6-1 victory over 32nd-ranked Virginia in ACC action on Sunday afternoon at the Ambler Tennis Stadium on the Duke campus.
The Blue Devils improve to 20-2 overall and 5-0 in the ACC on the season, giving Duke nine consecutive 20-win campaigns including the last seven under current head coach Jamie Ashworth. With the loss, Virginia falls to 11-8 overall and 1-4 in ACC play.
Sunday's victory over Virginia marked the final home regular season match for four Duke seniors -- Hillary Adams, Julie DeRoo, Katie Granson and Prim Siripipat. The quartet has helped the Blue Devils to a four-year record of 95-15 along with three NCAA Tournament berths, two ACC regular season titles and two ACC Tournament championships.
Duke captured the doubles point with wins at the numbers one and three positions. Amanda Johnson then gave the Blue Devils a 2-0 advantage with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Jennifer Tuchband at number two singles. After Adams won in straight sets at number six, Kelly McCain clinched the match for Duke with a 6-0, 6-1 triumph over Henriette Williams at number one.
Granson and Saras Arasu then earned singles wins for the Blue Devils before Virginia's Kristen James downed Julie DeRoo in three sets to account for the final margin.
Duke travels to meet Wake Forest on Wednesday at 5:00 p.m. while Virginia hosts Maryland on Wednesday at 2:30 p.m.
