PEACHTREE CITY, GA.-- Senior Amanda Johnson and junior Saras Arasu each advanced to the third round of the Flight A singles action on Friday at the Adidas Tennis Classic in Peachtree City, Ga.
Arasu, currently ranked 43rd-nationally, won two matches on Friday as the Tampa, Fla., product knocked off Sarah Jane Connelly of Notre Dame (6-0, 6-3) and 70th-ranked Paty Aburto of TCU (7-5, 6-2). After receiving a bye in the first round, ninth-ranked Johnson defeated Sahita Maharat of Tennessee (7-5, 6-1).
In other singles action, freshman Tory Zawacki won her first round match by defeating 79th-ranked Shana McElroy of Wisconsin (6-2, 4-6, 6-3) before falling to 27th-ranked Tammy Encina of Tennessee (6-0, 6-2). Freshman Jennifer Zika advanced to the second round but lost 7-5, 6-2 to 17th-ranked Zerene Reyes of Florida. Blue Devil freshman Kristin Cargill lost in the first round to 63rd-ranked Alicia Salas of Notre Dame, 6-2, 6-2.
Freshman Parker Goyer won her first round match, 6-4, 6-4, over Notre Dame's Liz Donahue. The doubles results were not completed in time for release.
