WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.-- Five different Duke women's tennis players advanced to the third round of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) on Friday in singles action in Winston-Salem, N.C.
Duke sophomore Jennifer Zika picked up two victories over Marie Matrka of Coastal Carolina, 6-2, 6-0, and Danielle Schwartz of Wake Forest, 6-1, 6-0, and will next battle Barbara Orlay of N.C. State on Saturday. Junior Jackie Carleton defeated Paula Takahashi of Winthrop, 6-2, 7-5, and Danielle Petrisko of Kentucky, 6-2, 7-6, and will next go up against Kendall Cline of North Carolina.
Freshman Clelia Deltour knocked off Ana Maria Cibils of Middle Tennessee State, 6-2, 6-0, and Sara Anundsen of North Carolina, 6-4, 6-1. She will next go up against Sarah Foster of Kentucky. Duke senior Saras Arasu picked up wins against Blakely Griffith of Tennessee, 2-6, 7-6, 6-3, and Kelly Fillnow of Davidson, 6-2, 7-5. Arasu will next play Caitlin Collins of North Carolina.
Another Blue Devil advancing to the third round of senior Katie Blaszak as she defeated Lara Maurer of Kentucky, 3-6, 6-2, 7-5, and Carlotte Tansil of North Carolina, 6-2, 6-4. She will next go up against Anelia Mojzis of North Carolina.
Duke sophomore Kristin Cargill fell in the first round to ninth-ranked Aibika Kalsarieva of Kentucky, 7-6, 6-3, while Lauren Archer fell in the first round to Kim Coverntry of Kentucky, 4-6, 6-1, 6-3. Tory Zawacki defeated Danelle Moita of Winthrop in the first round, 6-0, 4-6, 6-4, but lost to Karin Coetzee of Wake Forest in the second round, 6-0, 6-2.
