LOS ANGELES, CALIF.-- Saras Arasu, Kristin Cargill and Clelia Deltour all advanced to the singles fourth round on Sunday and are one victory away from advancing to the qualifying stage of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Riviera All-American, which will be played on Monday on the campus of UCLA.
A senior from Tampa, Fla., Arasu picked up a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Tracie Chong of Rice and defeated Taryn Rudman of Mississippi State, 6-3, 6-2, to advance. Arasu will take on Audra Cohen of Northwestern on Monday. Duke's lone freshman, Deltour, knocked off Samantha Waller of Cal Poly, 6-3, 6-1, and Kacie Anson of Georgia Tech, 6-1, 6-2, and will next battle Romy Farah of Clemson.
Also advancing to Monday's action was Cargill, after notching a 6-7, 7-5, 7-5 win over Suzana Maksovic of Denver and Shelah Chao of Penn, 6-0, 6-2. She will next take on Kristi Miller of Georgia Tech.
Duke sophomore Tory Zawacki had a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Saskia Nauenberg of Washington in the second round but fell, 6-4, 2-6, 3-6 to Dianne Matias of USC and Lauren Archer advanced to the fourth round before falling, 2-6, 1-6, to Maria Rosenberg of Kansas State.
The Blue Devil doubles team of Jennifer Zika and Deltour advanced to the third round with an 8-5 win over Arguelles/Kaloi and will next take on Bentzer/Hu of UCI, while the Duke duo of Cargill and Zawacki notched an 8-3 win over Novacova/Mesterov of UTA. They will next battle Miller/Siverio of Georgia Tech.
The final stage of prequalifying will be played on Monday and then qualifying will kick off.
