LOS ANGELES, CALIF.-- Duke University freshman Clelia Deltour advanced to the qualifying stage of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA)/Riviera All-American on Monday with a 6-0, 7-5 victory over Romy Farah of Clemson on the campus of UCLA in Los Angeles, Calif.
Deltour, a native of Savigny sur Orge, France, improved to 6-1 on the season and will next take on Emma Murphy of San Diego on Tuesday morning.
Duke's other two singles players participating in the prequalifying stage fell in the fourth round as senior Saras Arasu fell, 1-6, 0-6 to Audra Cohen of Northwestern and sophomore Kristin Cargill lost 4-6, 6-2, 6-7 to Kristi Miller of Georgia Tech.
The Blue Devils had one doubles team remaining in prequalifying, but Cargill and Tory Zawacki lost, 8-6, to Miller/Silverio of Georgia Tech in the third round. The Duke duo was up 7-4, but couldn't hold on to the victory.
Sophomore Jennifer Zika will kick off her singles play on Tuesday in the qualifying stage against Maria Ivanov of Tulane, while in doubles action, the Duke tandem of Katie Blaszak and Jackie Carleton will take on Lindsay Martin and Katie McGaffian of Wisconsin.
